CO2 local gas supplier
« on: June 06, 2019, 12:19:15 PM »
Afternoon all,

I've decided to plunge right into begging and I'm slowly getting the bits together. However, I've yet to source a good place to get the CO2 canister. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Chris,

Welcome aboard the kegging train...I put a beer in my first keg last week  :o

A few of us have used Severn Gas at Top Barn Business Centre in Worcester, https://www.mandmgases.com/

£60 for the bottle and your first fill then £24 for a refill, no rental charges on the bottle.

Cheers

Thanks Dan,

In the end Matt from KegKingdom (who especially opened up his warehouse Saturday so I could pick up my order.... what a star) recommended Bryland Fire in Brierley Hill / Dudley. I picked up a 3kg canister for £35, no deposit, and it'll be £7 refill. The next size up was only £45 (6kg I think). Absolute bargain I think.

Let the kegurator build begin.....  ;D

Hi Chris,
Does Bryland Fire only do CO2 for fire extinguishers? Or do they do other gases as well?

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure, but I assume they do the usual fire extinguishing gases. They sell CO2 that can be used for home brewing but don't advertise this on their website. Matt from Kegkingdom recommended the place.

It's worth point out that CO2 = CO2, the only difference I saw was that the fire extinguishing CO2 was in red, labelled canisters and the CO2 they sold me was in black, painted canisters, unlabelled. This 'food grade CO2' is misleading, it's the same stuff, coming from the same source, but more care is taken in the canister or vessel cleaning. I saw many a place advertising 'food grade CO2' and charging a premium, but this is simply a way of charging more for nothing more.

Cheers,
Chris

I need a refill, and used GMF Cheltenham. £55 for the deposit and £15 a fill for 3kg.

I'm planning a visit to Deya on the way back to make the trip worthwhile.

The reason I was asking about other gases was that I’m looking for a supply of the nitro mixed gas. Dan kindly got me a price from M&M but it means hiring a cylinder on an annual basis and I’m wondering if anyone knew anywhere else that might do it without an ongoing hire charge?

Ah, I see. Not sure to be honest. I sort of doubt it as Matt from Kegkingdom said they did the CO2 as a bit of a sideline. I doubt they do any mixed gases.

BTW - £55 deposit and £15 refill  :(
